Sheffield hand new deals to duo

Sheffield have given new deals to USA international Corey Makelim and young forward Lewis Taylor.

Utility-back Makelim has made 38 appearances for the Eagles since arriving from Australia in 2018. He has signed a two-year deal with Sheffield and has earned six caps for the USA.

Forward Taylor played four games for the Eagles last season as well as nine matches for Coventry. He has signed a one-year contract.

Makelim said: “I was unsure whether I was going to stay to be honest with you.

“I thought it’d be good to be a part of this and if we got into the top five next year and I was back at home watching the boys, I’d have been kicking myself.”

Taylor added: “I am buzzing to be staying, the goal last year was to show Tubbs [Mark Aston, coach] enough to get a contract for this coming year.

“Of course as a player I’d have liked to have played more but I was speaking to Tubbs throughout the year and he’s got his reasons, so hopefully I can push on and play a few more games.”
