Hull KR captain Shaun Lunt is in hospital with a serious infection, the club has confirmed.

Lunt, 31, was taken to hospital yesterday and is undergoing treatment that will rule him out for the rest of the season.

A club statement said: “Lunt was taken into hospital yesterday and is currently being treated whilst undergoing further tests, with the club’s medical staff and player welfare manager closely supporting Shaun and his family during his recovery.

“The infection will rule the Robins skipper out of this Sunday’s clash with Widnes Vikings at KCOM Craven Park and next week’s Million Pound Game should the club feature in that match.

“Everybody connected to Hull KR wishes Shaun all the best for a speedy recovery and we look forward to welcoming him back for pre-season training in November.”

The former Leeds and Huddersfield hooker was sidelined earlier in the year after cutting his knee on a door at home, which required 15 stitches.

He has been limited to just 15 appearances this season, including six starts, the last coming in the 30-18 win over London Broncos a fortnight ago.
