Featherstone Rovers coach Jon Sharp was very pleased with his team’s performance in their 46-4 win over York city Knights on Sunday.

The Rovers’ first half performance was particularly dominant, and new signings Frankie Mariano and Jason Walton were to the fore.

“We are playing with some combinations and they are coming together nicely,” said Sharp.

“Mariano and Walton are looking really dangerous and this is only the second week they have had time together.

“Walton gives me lots of options, as he can play a variety of positions. He is a powerful, strong player – with some skill as well.

“I am really delighted that we were able to sign someone like him at such a late stage. He has been a revelation for us.

“Overall we played very well and it is safe to say we are making plenty of progress.

“The real tests are now coming, with games against Wakefield and Leeds just around the corner.

“But we have an exciting season ahead and there is plenty to be optimistic about.”
