Seven men arrested so far following incident involving Joe Sharratt

A total of seven men have been arrested following an incident involving St Helens academy ace Joe Sharratt.

The 18-year-old suffered a serious head injury after an incident involving several bouncers outside Factory nightclub in Manchester city centre on December 2.

Sharratt was hospitalised for a couple of days, but he has now been released and is recovering from home.

Four of the men – aged 20, 27, 39 and 40 – who were arrested on Friday, December 14, have all been bailed, pending further enquiries.

A further three men have now been arrested – aged 21, 23 and 29. The 21-year-old has been bailed pending further enquiries, while the other two remain in custody, as of Monday dinner time.

Detective inspector Geoffrey Machent, of Greater Manchester Police’s City of Manchester division, commented: “We are progressing with our investigation and are continuing to follow several lines of enquiry to ensure that those responsible for this horrendous incident are brought to justice.

“We have now interviewed a total of eight people as part of our enquiries and are continuing to review CCTV footage and witness statements.”
