Wakefield grant Seth Nikotemo immediate release as return Down Under confirmed

Wakefield Trinity have granted Seth Nikotemo an immediate release, with the back-rower returning Down Under on compassionate grounds.

Nikotemo – who turned 22 in March – arrived at Belle Vue ahead of the 2025 campaign, joining Trinity as they returned to Super League following a treble-winning campaign at Championship level.

Born in New Zealand, the youngster had never previously played at first-grade level, but was recruited from NRL outfit Gold Coast Titans and went on to score eight tries in 29 appearances across all competitions for Wakefield.

The overseas ace had missed the last two games as Daryl Powell’s side beat Catalans Dragons before losing a top-of-the-table clash at home against Leeds Rhinos, and was pictured on social media earlier this week back in Australia.

Now, Trinity have confirmed he will remain there having been released from the remainder of his contract.

Having penned a three-year deal as he arrived at Belle Vue, Nikotemo had been contracted until the end of next season.

But he will now be able to find a club Down Under as he continues his career, with Wakefield sat third on the Super League ladder and still battling it out for a top-two finish this term.

Director of Rugby Ste Mills said: “As a club, we want to wish Seth all the best back home in Australia.

“Seth was an extremely well liked and valuable member of our squad, and it has been amazing to see him flourish over the last two years.

“As always here at Wakefield Trinity though, we put family first, so we have fully supported Seth’s decision to return back home to Australia.

“We wish Seth, his partner Jess and all of his family back home the very best of luck for the future.”
