Sean Long announces retirement

34 year old Sean Long former Great Britain and England scrum half has announced his retirement from rugby league. Currently at Hull FC long has not played since picking up a shoulder injury in June.

Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail Long confirmed his “agnoising” decision to retire due in part to the shoulder and thumb injuries picked up this season. He remains keen to stay in the game and is neogotaing a position to stay in the game as an assistant coach at a currently unamed club.

Speaking on Twitter Long thanked people for a great career saying he “will start to look back of what I have achieved with a smile”.

Having played at Wigan and Widnes Long made his name with St Helens with whom he won the Challenge Cup and the Super League. In 2009 he signed for Hull FC for the 2010 and 2011 campaigns.
