Sculthorpe pens permanent Widnes deal

Danny Sculthorpe has been rewarded for his form on trial at Widnes with a permanent deal at the club.

Sculthorpe, 31, joined the Vikings at the start of the season and made his debut in the Challenge Cup victory over Siddal, also featuring in the league matches against Sheffield and York.

He said: “I’m absolutely made up to have signed a contract to stay on board at Widnes.

“Following Thursday’s announcement, it’s certainly an exciting time for the Vikings, so to be asked to be a part of that is something I’m really looking forward to.

“Before we start to think of Super League though, we’ve got an important Championship season ahead of us and it’s important that we build something special this year.

“There’s only one place that this club is going and that’s forward, and it’s my ambition to get better week by week and return to my best playing form and be a part of both the immediate and long-term future of the Vikings.”

Sculthorpe sat out for 16 months with a career-threatening injury, which meant he didn’t make a single appearance during his time at Bradford.

Widnes Director of Rugby, Paul Cullen said: “It’s good to have Danny on board.

“He’s had a difficult time recently through injury but has come through that period with flying colours and his dedication and commitment to get himself back into peak physical condition and return to the field is a mark of his character.”
