Newcastle Thunder have completed their squad assembly for 2018 as Liam Scott and Sandy Rae have both penned new deals.

The duo were part of Thunder’s squad last year and trained with the first team squad while also gaining experience with Gateshead Storm and Northumbria University respectively.

And Newcastle head coach Jason Payne is pleased that the pair have decided to stay at Kingston Park.

He said: “I’m happy that Sandy has agreed a two-year deal with the club, Sandy is a local lad that has come through our Under-19s with Michael Heap and has shown glimpses of real promise.

“I’m hopeful that he can really kick on over the next year or so and become the player we believe he can be. He has a great attitude and I’m sure he will thrive in this environment.

“With Liam, I’m delighted he has agreed to an extension to his contract. Athletically he is right at the top of our squad, our challenge has been bringing him up to speed with Rugby League as he is from a Union background.

“He has been doing extra sessions with our Under-19s to try and give himself the best possible chance to play this season and that willingness to learn and determination coupled with his athletic ability is why we wanted him to stay this year.”
