Scott aiming for Dragons trial

Matt Scott is hoping to overcome his back problem and feature in North Queensland’s trial match with St George on Saturday week.

Co-captain Scott has withdrawn from the NRL All Stars selection and won’t play in the Cowboys’ trial against Brisbane this weekend.

However, he has nominated the February 11 hit-out against St George in Perth as the date for his return but also wants to be involved against Gold Coast, the following week.

“I’m looking forward to heading over to Perth for the camp on Monday, having a good week there and hopefully trialling against the Dragons,” he said.

“I haven’t missed out as much training as I thought I would.

“The back hasn’t been giving me anywhere near as much grief as I thought it would.”

Scott endured a longer-than-average season due to his involvement in Australia‘s successful Four Nations campaign.

The burly prop has been carfeful not to aggravate his long-standing back problem during training but feels confident he can return to action soon.

“Some of my training during the week has been modified to take some of the load off and I’m ready to test it out,” said Scott.

“Hopefully I’ll play the majority of the game in the second trial.”
