Scotland international Oscar Thomas will remain at Whitehaven for the rest of the season following a successful trial period.

The 27-year-old half-back joined the Championship side on a one-month trial and made his debut in their Challenge Cup defeat to Widnes. Thomas has won 11 caps for Scotland and will hope to play in his second World Cup later this year.

Thomas said: “It’s been a long year of uncertainties since I last played, and so I’m excited to be back out playing the game I love and I’m grateful to Whitehaven for giving me this opportunity.”

Whitehaven director Ashley Kilpatrick said: “He’s played in this division to a good standard for most of his career and being a World Cup year, he will be wanting to show his best rugby to secure a place in the Scottish squad so hopefully we can see the best of Oscar for the rest of 2021.”

Whitehaven welcome Championship leaders Toulouse to the Recreation Ground this weekend.
