Scorpions establish new management commitee

South Wales Scorpions have established a new management committee to ensure that the club continues to make progress in 2015.

Former referee Ian Curzon has been appointed the new chairman of the club. Andy Birchall has taken up the position of vice chair.

The club was administered by the Wales Rugby League in 2014, after the original board was disrupted.

This was due to the death of original director John Brennan,  and the resignations of founder Phil Davies and original financial director Rob Buckley.

“I am very proud and honoured to be appointed chairman of South Wales Scorpions,” said Curzon.

“After the trials and tribulations off the field last year, the new management group is a major step forward to help stabilise the club and lay foundations for the future.

“We now need to start the hard work and get everything in place for the forthcoming season, and hopefully attract some new investors to the club.”

The management committee with be supplemented by up to 14 volunteers. Mountain Ash RFC will also provide assistance on match days, and some representatives will attend Scorpions board meetings.

“We’re delighted to have such fantastic hosts in Mountain Ash RFC and we’re pleased that they’re taking such a big interest,” Curzon added.

“They really want the club to succeed and I think they were pleased with the steps that we’ve made off the field.”
