South Wales Scorpions have signed two former Crusaders players on trial contracts in readiness for the pre-season match against Wigan Warriors this Saturday at The Gnoll in Neath (kick-off 3pm).

Dale Evans from Maerdy in Rhondda Cynon Taff and Lewis Fox from Cardiff are both due to make their Scorpions debut against the Super League giants and coach Dave Clark is delighted to have them on board.

“I heard a lot of good reports about these two boys and they’ve really impressed in pre-season training,” he said. “They both deserve to be given an opportunity to shine and hopefully that’s what they’ll do against Wigan Warriors on Saturday at The Gnoll.”

Dale Evans, a Wales under 18 international, has just come out of the Crusaders under 18 side and starred in the international victory over England Community Lions last November. He played in all bar one of the Crusaders Academy games last year and was a star in his regular hooker position.

Lewis Fox (pictured), a 25-year old centre, has recently been playing for Valley Cougars following a spell with Rumney RFC. He played for Celtic Crusaders in 2008 where he was part of their reserve team squad that won the Conference National title. He was in the same team as current Super League stars Ben Flower, Elliot Kear, Lloyd White and Gil Dudson at the time.

Dudson, now with Wigan Warriors, is set to appear against the Scorpions at The Gnoll on Saturday. Wigan’s full squad for the match will be announced tomorrow (Thursday).

South Wales Scorpions open their 2012 campaign this Saturday 4th February with a warm-up match against a Wigan Warriors XIII at The Gnoll in Neath (kick-off 3pm). Tickets are on sale at www.scorpionsrl.com and can also be bought in person at the Neath RFC shop in Old Market Street, Neath.
