HAVE YOUR SAY: Who will win the 2017 Super League Grand Final?

Drew Darbyshire

It’s been a hectic season on the field and the Grand Final is finally upon us.

Castleford Tigers will meet Leeds Rhinos at Old Trafford on Saturday, 6pm kick-off.

Daryl Powell’s Tigers have had the best year in the club’s history, winning the League Leaders’ Shield, but they will not want it to stop just yet.

At the end of the Super 8s, Castleford had 50 points, having won 25 out of their 30 Super League matches this term.

They even have two players nominated for the Steve Prescott Man of Steel award in Zak Hardaker and Luke Gale, with the duo also set to be selected in Wayne Bennett’s England squad for the World Cup.

And where would the Tigers be without try-scoring machine Greg Eden this year? The ex-Brisbane Broncos man has topped the try-scoring charts by some distance, with 38 to his name while Wigan Warriors youngster Liam Marshall in second with 21 tries.

Super League sponsors Betfred have put Castleford as favourites for the game and Leeds will probably like being underdogs for a change.

Brian McDermott’s side finished second in the Super 8s and have gone massively under the radar this year due to all the focus being turned on to whoever was going to grab the third and fourth spots in the league, as both Leeds and Castleford had their respective places fully secured.

In contrast to the Rhinos campaign last year, it has been brilliant. They went from winning the treble in 2015 to finishing in the Qualifiers last year, but have bounced back and are the Leeds of old.

Jack Walker first burst onto the scene as a lively and energetic 17-year-old at fullback and there has been a battle for the No. 1 spot with Ashton Golding this year which can only be a good thing.

The real rivalry on Saturday though will surely be between the half-backs. Gale and Ben Roberts are set to come up against veterans Danny McGuire, Joel Moon and Rob Burrow so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
