Halifax winger Tommy Saxton is looking forward to tangling with Featherstone Rovers in the Championship play-offs this Sunday.

The occasion has extra significance for Saxton, as Fev are a former club of his.

“It adds a little bit more spice to the game,” he said.

““I enjoyed myself in my time playing for Featherstone, the fans were great and hopefully I’ll get a good reception.

“The atmosphere is fantastic at Featherstone, especially for the big games and it would be good to have a massive following behind us.

“Rovers have beaten us twice this season and we are going into the game knowing we owe it to the fans to put in a good performance.”

Halifax claimed third spot in the table with their last-day win over Barrow, with Scott Murrell taking temporary charge as coach, following the departure of Karl Harrison.

“We have been struggling a little bit for consistency this year,” added Saxton.

“Our goal was to finish in the top two but it was still nice to finish third.

“Last time we played Featherstone they were too good for us. We were playing reasonably well until the last time we played them and in the last few weeks the wheels fell off a little bit.

“The attitude and commitment were there, we just needed to apply ourselves a little bit more.”
