Former Super League ace Andre Savelio has been ruled out for the season after picking up an ACL injury when making his Brisbane Broncos debut.

The 22-year-old injured his knee in the 14th minute of Brisbane’s 16-6 win over CQ Capras in a pre-season friendly on Saturday night.

Jeremy Hickmans, high performance manager at the Broncos, confirmed that Savelio will need a knee reconstruction.

Savelio made 76 appearances in Super League for St Helens, Castleford Tigers and Warrington Wolves respectively.

It’s a huge setback for the promising back-rower, who just last week said he was hoping to make an impact at Brisbane this year.

Brisbane face Gold Coast Titans in their second friendly this Saturday in Toowoomba.
