Samoan RL has more plans to grow domestically

Samoan rugby league could be about to experience another boost in domestic growth, on the back of a visit to the country by rugby union’s All Blacks.

Samoa‘s Apia Stadium is set to be redeveloped for the visit of the New Zealand RU side in July, and Rugby League president Tagaloa Fa’afouina Su’a wants to see it host rugby league tests in the future.

“Rugby (union) is the number one sport in Samoa but with the success of Toa Samoa, it’s really boosted the morale of the people here,” he said.

“Two weeks ago we reached another milestone in launching the code on the other big island of Savai’i.

“Rugby league is also being played by girls in schools in Samoa now.”
