Samoan pair banned for Barthau tackles

Samoa pair Leeson Ah Mau and Sauaso Sue have been ruled out of their World Cup quarter-final with Fiji after picking up one match bans.

Both were cited for incidents in Monday’s 22-6 win over France, with Ah Mau charged with striking with a shoulder on half-back William Barthau, and Sue charged with tripping the same player.

Sue was also issued a formal caution for striking Barthau with his shoulder in a separate incident.

Both players have until 11am on Wednesday to appeal the sanction.

Coach Matt Parish has already seen his squad depleted by injuries, and was given permission to call-up Tony Puletua to his squad after Frank Winterstein, Harrison Hansen and Rene Maitua were all forced to withdraw.
