Sydney Roosters have tied down rising star Sam Walker to a new deal that will see him stay with the club until at least the end of 2025.

The 20-year-old has made a fine start to his NRL career, playing 46 games since making his first team debut at the age of 18.

Walker was born in Leeds while his Australian father Ben was playing for the Rhinos in Super League in 2002.

Ben and his family moved back to Australia a year later and settled in Queensland, where Sam was raised.

Walker said: “The Roosters have been awesome for me. I’m grateful everyday to be part of this great club.

I love the Roosters club and the people in it so I’m stoked to extend my time here.

“From Robbo (Trent Robinson) and the coaches to the squad around me, I’m learning so much and I know this is where I’ll play my best footy.”

Roosters boss delighted to see Sam Walker sign new deal

Walker completed his debut season as Dally M Rookie of the Year and he was named in the Maroons’ extended squad for the third game of the 2022 Origin series.

Most recently, Walker was recognised for his strong season with selection to represent the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII against Papua New Guinea.

Roosters head of recruitment Daniel Anderson said: “Sam is an impressive young man; and a keen student of the game who brings energy to everything he does.

“There’s a terrific connection between him and the players around him.

“It’s great news that he will continue to play his important role here at the Roosters in the coming years.”
