Sam Latus joins Knights

York City Knights have announced that centre Sam Latus has joined the club until the end of the season, with an option on 2014.

A product of Hull Kingston Rovers’ academy system and brother of current Knights star Jack, Latus made his senior debut in a 16-16 draw at Huddersfield back in 2010 and went on to make a total of 38 appearances for the Robins in Superleague, scoring 14 tries.

The 23-year-old has found first team action hard to come by this season and jumped at the chance to join his brother at the Knights.

Coach Gary Thornton said: “Sam is a fantastic signing for the Knights and I’m delighted he chose to come to us. We went from a position of looking strong and healthy in the centers to suddenly having big holes to fill. We have George Elliott, Nat Browne and Ben Dent who can come onto the wing, but it was centre I was more worried about so this is a timely boost for us.”

Hull KR CEO Mike Smith said: “Sam has been a great servant to the club and a consummate professional at all times. He hasn’t figured as much as he’d have liked in the first team this year and both parties felt Sam probably needs a fresh start. We wish him all the very best for the future.”

Sam Latus will go straight in to Gary Thornton’s squad for the crucial trip to Dewsbury in the Kingstone Press Championship this Sunday.
