Widnes Vikings have confirmed that Sam Freeman has left the club following the expiration of his contract, with the player expressing his frustration on social media.

Freeman is a product of the Widnes academy, and made his first team debut in 2019 in the Championship away to Batley Bulldogs.

He made a total of eight first team appearances, scoring four tries.

He wrote on social media: “After six years at the club my time there is over. I am gutted to be let go but I guess some things just don’t work out.

“I’ve turned down many opportunities over the years to stay loyal to Widnes and for them to show such little faith and loyalty in return is very disappointing and more gutting than anything.

“There’s so much more I’d like to say but I don’t want to sound like a bitter person as that’s not who I am.

“I just want to say thanks to everyone at the club who’s helped me over the last six years, also a big thank you to the fans, you’ve been unreal.”
