Warrington Wolves look set to welcome back George Williams sooner rather than later, with head coach Sam Burgess detailing he could be back in the next couple of games.
Burgess’ side head into a gruelling block of three games in the space of 10 days, with York Knights, Hull KR and Huddersfield Giants all lined up between the 13th and 23rd of August.
However, Warrington will come into the contests in good spirits after a deserved 42-4 win over Bradford Bulls in round 22.
‘George will be back in the next couple of games’
Williams has missed the bulk of the 2026 campaign thus far through a serious neck injury, making just 10 appearances all season, but it seems he will make his return to the field in the next few fixtures.
“I think George will be back in the next couple of games,” Burgess told Sky Sports following his side’s win at Odsal.
“Not sure if it’s going to be this week or the week after, but he’ll be back in the next couple of games.”

Confirmation of his impending return comes after he was given the green light to return to training earlier this week.
“George’s checks went to plan,” Burgess told members of the media on Wednesday.
“He’s back in full training now, so we’re just trying to build him up to playing. Whether that’s next week or the week after, we’ll decide.
“He’ll train big and then we’ll make a decision, but it will certainly be in the next two or three weeks.”
Praise for young half-backs
The return of Williams is undoubtedly a major boost for Warrington heading into the final few rounds of the regular season, given his experience and quality; but it’s not a clear-cut call.
Ewan Irwin and Leon Hayes have both been in good form in recent weeks, particularly in their resounding win against the Bulls at Odsal, and Burgess was quick to praise their performance once again.
“They’re going well,” he said. “They’re great boys and such a pleasure to coach.
“They’re willing to learn, get better and are humble young lads; and they’re local boys too. I’m happy for those guys; they’re growing.”
