Sam Burgess: I’m happy at Souths

Sam Burgess has revealed that South Sydney haven’t approached him over a new contract yet, but insists he is happy at the Rabbitohs.

Burgess has been in fine form again in the NRL this season, but the England star is out-of-contract at the end of next year.

The 29-year-old suggested he would prefer to stay at Souths, but he hasn’t ruled out a return to Super League.

When asked if he has been in talks with Souths over a new deal, he replied: “They have not approached or anything yet.

“I would never say never [to a return to rugby union]. I don’t think I would ever be going to back to rugby union, but I never say never because if an opportunity came at some point to go to England, you never know where I might be in my career.

“For now, I am very happy where I am.”

On whether he would join another NRL club, Burgess commented: “That’s a tough question.

“I think anyone who plays at the club and leaves always struggles to play against them.”
