Salford want to keep standards high, says Ian Watson

Salford coach Ian Watson is urging his players not to let their standards drop when they return to league action.

The Red Devils have had little time to lick their wounds from their Challenge Cup final defeat to Leeds as they prepare to take on Wigan in the opening game of the double-header at St Helens on Friday.

Watson said: “Obviously we had a massive disappointment at the weekend but we got over it pretty quickly.

“We know it’s a quick turn-around but our mentality is that we’re going to play against Wigan to win.

“We spoke about the fact we’re not going to get many sessions in now with three games more or less every week until we finish.

“It’s a different challenge because obviously when we finished the Grand Final there was no game.

“After the Challenge Cup final, it probably felt like the end of the season a little bit so we all had a chat about that and where we’ve got to as a team. We’ve got to ensure our standards remain high.”
