Salford sign centre Goulding on loan

Salford City Reds have confirmed the loan signing of Wigan centre Darrell Goulding.

Goulding, 21, makes the short move to The Willows following the arrival of Martin Gleeson at the JJB Stadium.

The move had been rumoured since Gleeson’s move, but was completed following Salford’s surprise win over Leeds last night, and Goulding will go straight in to Shaun McRae’s 19-man squad for the game against Catalans on Saturday.

McRae said: “Darrell is an exciting young player who provides utility options in the outside backs. He is a specialist centre but can play out on the wings or at full-back.

“It is a great opportunity for Darrell to showcase his talents and ability and I’m looking for him to make an immediate impact.”

“Darrell will be travelling to France with us and will be named in the squad. I don’t bring in loan players to play in the reserves.

Goulding said: “It’s exciting to be joining a club on top form. I saw the results this weekend and was really surprised at the Leeds score. Things are going well here and I can’t wait to get into the thick of it. I know a few of the lads from Wigan such as Lee Jewitt and I played with Stef Ratchford when we were a lot younger. ”

“I was stuck in the reserves at Wigan so this will really give me the chance to show what I can do. I have international aspirations and this will hopefully allow me to push myself regularly at Super League level.”
