Salford scour the market for marquee signing

Salford are looking to make a marquee signing from Down Under for the rest of this season.

With Brian Noble now in place as head coach, attention has turned to the club’s recruitment drive, with the aim of fulfilling owner Dr Marwan Koukash’s ambitious plans.

Reports Down Under have linked Newcastle pair Neville Costigan and Adam Cuthbertson to Super League, and Noble is believed to be keen to add a back-rower to his squad.

Costigan, 28, who has played State of Origin for Queensland and also played for Papua New Guinea at the 2008 World Cup, is out of contract at the end of this season, while Cuthbertson is still contracted with the Knights for 2014.

Local press have also linked Salford with moves for Hull KR pair Michael Dobson and Cory Paterson, as well as Wakefield’s Tim Smith, who Noble coached at Wigan.
