Salford Red Devils have announced the signing of Tyler Dupree from Widnes until the end of 2023.

Dupree, 22, started at Salford’s scholarship six years ago before joining Leeds’ academy.

The deal has also seen Red Devils forward Josh Johnson go the other way, joining Widnes on a deal until the end of 2023.

The forward joined Widnes ahead of the 2022 campaign from Oldham, having also represented England academy. In 2019, he earned a place in the Rhinos first team squad.

Dupree said: “I’m really excited. Playing in Super League is what I’ve been working towards.

“I’m ready to work hard and make an impression. I’m here to take the rough with the smooth, take it day by day and just enjoy it.”

“Rowls (Rowley) has been honest, straight to the point and has told me what he wants and expects from me for the rest of this season and next. I’m really looking forward to working under him.”

The agreement will see forward Johnson join the Championship side on a deal until the end of 2023. The 27-year-old has made 146 appearances in his career so far in both Super League and Championship.

Born in Huddersfield, he made more than 30 appearances for the Giants following his debut in 2013. He appeared for Doncaster, Batley and Oldham on loan before making the move to Hull KR in 2017.

He made the switch to Cumbria with Barrow in 2019, before joining Salford in July 2019.

Johnson will link up with the squad this week in preparation for this weekend’s game against Whitehaven, the club confirmed. The side remain without a permanent head coach following the departure of Simon Finnigan.
