Salford props banned

Salford City Reds will be without two players for their Magic Weekend fixture against Crusaders RL on Sunday February 13 after props Ryan Boyle and Ray Cashmere were suspended when they appeared before the RFL Disciplinary Committee.

Ryan Boyle was banned for two matches after being found guilty of dangerous play in a friendly at Hull Kingston Rovers last Sunday whilst Cashmere was suspended for one match for using foul and abusive language to a match official.

Boyle was placed on report for his tackle, which happened in the 56th minute, and pleaded not guilty to the Grade B offence.

The committee ruled that after making a legitimate tackle on Joel Clinton, Boyle deliberately applied pressure and twisted the ankle of the Hull KR player in a way that involved an unacceptable risk of injury. The committee felt Boyle’s actions were cynical, unnecessary and could have resulted in an injury.

Boyle, who was also fined £200, will miss Salford’s opening match of the match against Crusaders RL at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium and the home fixture against St Helens on Friday February 18.

The Disciplinary Committee handed down a one-match ban to Cashmere, who admitted using foul and abusive language to referee James Child in the 74th minute of the same match. Cashmere was also fined £200.

Salford City Reds v Crusaders RL is the opening fixture on the second day of Magic Weekend, Sunday February 13 and kicks off at 12.00.
