Salford hooker Connor Jones to re-join Featherstone

Australian hooker Connor Jones is to leave Challenge Cup finalists Salford at the end of the season to re-join Championship club Featherstone.

The 25-year-old became a big favourite at the Millennium Stadium after arriving at the club from Queensland’s Northern Pride midway through the 2019 season and played a key role in Rovers’ run to the Grand Final which they lost to Toronto.

That form earned him a contract with Salford, but he has made just five Super League appearances so far and has signed a deal to return to Featherstone for the 2021 centenary season.

Jones said: “I’m really excited to be coming back. I was with the club in 2019 and really enjoyed my time here.

“I’m still at Salford until the end of the season so that’s where my sole focus will be in trying to get into the team there and, if that’s not the case, helping the rest of the boys in training for the rest of the season.”

Rovers coach James Webster said: “I am really pleased that Connor has decided to re-join the club.

“He made a huge impact in the run to the Grand Final in 2019.”
