Salford head coach Paul Rowley revealed more injury concerns for his side following their 30-18 defeat to Huddersfield.

Rowley did name a 21-man squad ahead of Sunday’s opening Magic Weekend fixture. However, he revealed that only 19 of those players were fit enough to take the field.

Joe Burgess continues to be sidelined through injury. Morgan Escare, Dan Sarginson, King Vuniyayawa and Jack Wells have all been ruled out for the season.

Elijah Taylor returned from his one-match suspension and featured from the bench. The former New Zealand international did leave the field for a head injury assessment, but Rowley is hoping he will be fine for next week against Catalans.

Meanwhile, Tyler Dupree came off the field through injury and did not return.

Paul Rowley reveals more injury concerns

Rowley said: “I know Tyler definitely couldn’t get back on. Both back-rowers should have been off at half-time. But fair play to them. They put their hand up and had a dig for us.

“Something popped in Tyler’s knee. There’s swelling and we’ll have to wait to see the outcome of that. They’ll be two or three checks this week and doubtful players for the next game.

“We had 19 fit this week. It is what it is. That’s the journey we’re on and the cards we have been dealt.

“The bodies that are out there are good players as well. I guess the hard bit is applying pressure that a fit squad would bring and being able to rest, rotate and even reward people.

“There’s no managing of the squad, it picks itself which I said in the week. It’s a testament to them and the standards that they set that they don’t let their standards drop when realistically the team is picking itself.”
