Salford City Reds 6-25 Wigan Warriors

The Warriors opened the scoring with a penalty goal from Pat Richards after ten minutes of play, but the City Reds restored parity with a penalty from John Wilshere soon after.

Both defences held firm, and it took until 38 minutes into the encounter for the first try, Chris Ashton latching onto Thomas Leuleuai’s grubber to touch down and give Wigan an 8-2 lead at the break.

Richards added a third goal after the restart, and converted tries from Sean O’Loughlin and Mark Calderwood made the score 22-2 in the Warriors’ favour and ended the game as a contest.

A final penalty from Richards and Trent Barrett drop goal set the seal on Wigan’s win, and a late try for Salford from Kevin McGuinness could take nothing of the shine from the victory.
