Sale set for Salford groundshare

Salford will soon be sharing their new Salford City Stadium home with rugby union side Sale Sharks.

The Sharks have been linked with a move to the new £26m stadium for some time, and will hold a press conference at the venue tomorrow to “make a major club announcement.”

Sale have played at Edgeley Park, also home of Stockport County football club, for the past nine years, and are believed to have struck a deal with Peel Holdings and Salford City Council, the joint owners of the 12,000 seater stadium at Barton.

The move could result in a re-branding for the club, who are looking to grow their crowds by tapping in to the Manchester region.

They have recently announced the signing of Danny Cipriani, the high profile England fly-half.

Salford have averaged less than 6,000 at the new stadium since making the move from The Willows in the close season.
