Saints want to rediscover magic touch

St Helens, the most successful club in the Super League era, are aiming to rediscover their magic touch by avenging last year’s Grand Final defeat by Wigan when the two sides meet at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Saturday February 12 (7.00)
With five Engage Super League titles to their name, Saints have been crowned champions more than any other team but for the past four years they have left with runners-up medals having lost to Leeds Rhinos three times and arch-rivals Wigan last year.
“We have not won a trophy in a few years and for a club like St Helens it does hurt not to win in the finals,” said St Helens hooker James Roby.
“I am confident from the way pre-season training has been going and the introduction of the new coach that there is no reason why we won’t be winning silverware this year.
“We are building up to the first game against Wigan at Millennium Magic. It’s going to be a big game with a lot of attention as it is a rematch of last year’s Engage Super League Grand Final.
“We won’t think about the pressure too much but just prepare as normal and concentrate on what we need to do. I am confident that if you play as I know we can we will be fine.
“At the beginning of every season there seems to always be some upsets so there could be some very interesting games in Cardiff. Hopefully we will get to see some strengths and weaknesses in a few of the teams over the weekend.
“It will be a great weekend for everyone involved in Rugby League, especially the fans. We want to put in a performance worthy for the event.”
Roby’s future was the subject of much speculation during the 2010 Four Nations in Australia and New Zealand but the England international recently made his commitment to St Helens clear by penning a new three-year contract.
“I signed a new deal with St Helens which keeps me here an additional three years and I am very happy at St Helens,” said Roby.
“This is where I want to be, I am a St Helens lad born and bred and I love this club. At this point in my life, I don’t want to be anywhere else.”
