Saints rubbish Walsh release clause reports

St Helens have rubbished reports that new signing Luke Walsh has a release clause in his contract enabling him to make a quick return to the NRL.

Walsh, 26, will join Saints from the start of next season from Penrith Panthers on a two-year deal, but was quoted Down Under saying he had “an opportunity to get out… at any time.”

But the Super League club have moved quick to clarify the position over their new half-back.

A club statement said: “St Helens RFC would like to state that, contrary to incorrect reports in Australia, Luke Walsh has signed a two-year contract with the club, with an option for a further year, from 2014.

“Saints are looking forward to welcoming the Penrith Panthers‘ scrum half next season alongside his teammate Mose Masoe.”

The statement added that the option of a third year at Langtree Park is in the player’s favour.

The Australian has made more than 100 appearances in the NRL for Newcastle Knights and Penrith, since his debut back in 2007.
