Saints looking to the future

St Helens have signed Matty Dawson from Huddersfield, and the club has also announced the extension of six contracts.

Dawson, 22, was signed by Saints head coach Nathan Brown when he was in charge of the Giants, and he has now brought the outside back to Langtree Park on a two-year contract.

Brown had this to say on the signing of Dawson: “We’re pleased to have Matty on board.

“He’s quick, talented and keen to learn. He has shown a lot of promise at the Giants and now, like our other younger signings, he needs to get his head down and keep on working.”

Meanwhile six young Saints, four of whom have already seen first-team action, have signed new deals at the club.

Luke Thompson, Lewis Charnock, Greg Richards and Andre Savelio have all signed two-year contracts, whilst James Tilley and Connor Dwyer have both put pen to paper on new one-year deals.

All six players are products of the Saints Academy system, and all but Dwyer have been on the club’s successful tours to Australia.

“Lewis, Luke, Greg and James have had a taste of first team action already and have done well, whilst Andre is training with the first team squad and Connor will follow soon,” said Brown.

“They now have a long hard road ahead of them and they will need to work hard and make sacrifices. If they do that and have luck, they should develop into good players with long term futures at Saints.”
