The South Sydney Rabbitohs are delighted to announce that Shaun McRae has accepted the position of Director of Coaching and Football Operations for the next two years today.

Mr McRae will be responsible for the management of all football operations for the Club, answering to the Chief Executive Officer. The role will include managing the football department for the Rabbitohs, involvement in recruitment and retention, mentoring and working with the coaches and staff, handling media requirements and game day requirements for the Club, amongst other responsibilities.

Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson said: “We have expanded our football department twofold with five new full-time staff coming on board, and we need someone to manage this arm of our business. This is all part of building our resources and creating a winning football team. Jason Taylor’s enthusiasm and Shaun’s experience is a great combination and we look forward to having the two of them work together in this manner in the years to come. I’d like to congratulate Shaun on the efforts he has given to this Club over the past two years as Head Coach, in some very trying circumstances with little resources, and I look forward to continuing our professional relationship in his new role as Director of Coaching and Football Operations.”

Mr McRae says: “I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this new position and the role I can play in the
revival of the Club, and I came to the decision that I wanted to make the move into a managerial role. We’ve had some tough situations to work through over the past two years, but we’ve always come out the other side, and the future ahead for this Club is very bright indeed, a future I want to be an integral part of. I look forward to working with Jason when he takes up the Head Coaching role for the 2007 season and I’m looking forward to playing a part in the resurgence of this Club over the coming years.”
