Runciman ignores contract speculation

Widnes centre Charly Runicman has put talks on his future on hold as he aims to focus on the Super League season at hand.

Runicman is off-contract at the end of 2016 and has attracted interest from rival clubs in Super League and the NRL.

But the centre said where he plays next year isn’t his concern right now, after Widnes got their campaign off to a winning start against Wakefield.

“I just want to focus on the team and our results at the moment,” Runciman told Love Rugby League.

“I’ll probably just take it [contract talks] as it comes. I just want to concentrate on playing good footy.”

Runciman made his return from injury in the Vikings’ 24-16 victory over the Wildcats.

The former St George Illawarra outside back made 21 tackles and two tackle busts on Sunday.

“It was pretty tough,” Runicman admitted.

“I blew out some combwebs in the first game of the season so I will be better for it next week.”

Widnes meet Leeds this Sunday at the Select Security Stadium.

“Everyone had tough games on the weekend so I think we will all be pushing to play better this weekend,” Runciman said.

“I’m looking forward to Leeds.”
