Hull Kingston Rovers have finally completed the signing of former Brisbane Broncos prop Joel Clinton.

The 28-year old has joined on a deal that will see him at Craven Park until the end of the 2012 campaign after six seasons in the NRL with both the Broncos and Penrith Panthers.

Clinton has one Australian cap to his name after featuring in the 2004 ANZAC Test and has also appeared in three State of Origin matches for New South Wales.

In his 137 game spell with the Panthers Clinton was part of the side that upset favourites Sydney Roosters in the 2003 NRL Grand Final to claim a famous 18-6 triumph.

Clinton has made 182 NRL appearances in all but is now looking forward to the new challenge that Super League will bring.

“I can’t wait to get over there and get started,” said Clinton.

“I know a few players that have gone from the NRL to Super League and they’ve only had positive things to say about the experience.”

“The club has a good history of winning things and I’m coming to Hull KR wanting to get to the top. Justin Morgan has built strong foundations over the past few years and the passion to want to achieve was a driving force behind my decision to sign.”

Clinton added: “I feel like I’ve still got some of my best years ahead of me. I’m looking forward to bonding with the team then earning my stripes and letting my rugby do the talking.”

Rovers Head Coach Justin Morgan was happy to secure Clinton’s signature. “Joel is a player that we have admired for a while and we are delighted that he has joined us.”

“He’s a very talented player. You don’t play State of Origin or earn a cap for Australia without having that something special.”

“He will give us even greater strength in our pack and his signing will only add to the fierce competition for places that we have in the forwards.”

“We’ve got some young prop forwards in the squad and Joel’s experience won’t only help the team on the field, but what he will be able to pass onto the younger players in training will be invaluable to them.”
