Rovers keep hold of young stars

James Gordon

Hull KR have handed two-year contract extensions to youngsters Liam Salter and James Green.

Salter was the club’s Academy Player of the Year last term, and made his Super League debut against Catalan earlier this season, and has gone on to make three further first team appearances.

Prop Green, 21, is yet to make his first team bow for Rovers, but signed a dual-registration deal with Workington earlier back in February.

Rovers chief executive Mike Smith said: “With the way the game is going it’s important to make sure that you have a good youth development structure in place.

“As a club, we have a real focus on producing our own talent and want to see the likes of Liam Salter and James Green become regular first-team players in the future.

“The fact that we have tied them down to new contracts is a statement of intent that shows we don’t want our talented, young players leaving the club to go elsewhere.”

Both players were due to be out of contract at the end of the season.
