Rochdale reveal 2018 captains

Rochdale Hornets coach Alan Kilshaw has named Luke Adamson and Danny Yates as captains for the upcoming season.

In a change to the leadership group model of the previous two years, the duo will lead the club in 2018.

Adamson joined Oldham in the off-season and has admitted that it will be a privilege to lead the team this year.

“It’s a massive honour,” Adamson said.

“When coming to a new club, you just want to fit in and I’ve got on with everyone really well.

“I was surprised when he (Alan Kilshaw) asked me, but also honoured at the same time.

“I’m a big talker on the field so I like to help and guide people, especially in stressful situations where I can bring a bit of a calm head which comes with experience.

Yates has been with the club since the 2015 season, making 82 appearances and becoming a fan favourite at the Hornets.

And the half-back is ready to step up as a leader this year.

“We’d had some discussions in pre-season about our plans for the season, and Alan threw in there that he may be thinking about me as a captain.

“He said that although I’m still pretty young I have been with him for the last two years, and he feels now may be the right time to make me become a bit of a leader within the team.

“Being a half-back I think I’m pretty vocal anyway, in terms of getting the team around the field, but I suppose it brings a couple more responsibilities to me because I have to lead by example now.”
