Rochdale Hornets have announced the re-signing of Seta Tala for the 2020 Betfred League One season.

The former Rochdale Cobra joined from local community club Rochdale Mayfield part way through the 2018 season.

The Fijian, whose full name is Setareki Talatoka, was born on the pacific island before moving to Rochdale and making his name on the local amateur scene, as well as representing Lancashire.

He made just seven appearances in 2019 after struggling with injury.

On his new signing, Tala said: “I am looking forward to another season with the Hornets.

“After sustaining injuries in 2019, I felt like I needed to come back and prove a point and play my best rugby yet, especially with some familiar faces around.”

On the news, head coach Matt Calland said: “I’m really pleased that Seta has re-signed with the club.

“I’ve known him for a while now and he’s a Fijian and that has always been a great tradition of the club.

“He was struck with injury last year, so hopefully he will have a big year in 2020. At the age of 28, he could be a big leader for the group going forward next season and I’m looking forward to working with him again.”
