Rochdale have edged past Swinton by six points in a fiery and brutal friendly today.

Wayne English opened the scoring for Rochdale off a Danny Yates banana kick. Ben Moores then extended the Hornets’ lead.

Swinton then responded with two tries into the next 20 minutes.

The Hornets took a 12-10 lead into half-time.

Dave Cookson started the second half with a try off a cross-kick. Yares then got on the scoresheet for another Rochdale try.

But the Lions wouldn’t lie down and they scored two tries.

An intercept try to Kieron Walpole sealed the win for the Hornets. Tempers started to flare and after punches were thrown, a Swinton player was sin-binned and Stuart Biscombe was sent off for Rochdale.

Emotions ran high again as Swinton crossed for the last try of the game, the final score 30-24.
