St Helens hooker James Roby was very impressed by the performance of the man who deputised for him against Hull KR last Friday night.

Lewis Charnock stepped into the England number 9’s boots for the 52-12 thrashing of the Robins, and Roby feels confident in the youngster’s abilities.

“He did fantastic. Every time I’ve seen ‘Dougie’ play he’s been more than capable,” he said.

“You can throw him in there and be confident he’ll do what’s asked of him.

“I think he’s got a good future ahead of him. He’s got the right attitude.

“He’s a great lad to have around training. If he just keeps doing what he’s doing at the minute, taking his chances, then hopefully he’ll kick on.”
