Roberts ready to build on Ireland experience

Huddersfield back rower Oliver Roberts is hoping to use his recent international experience with Ireland to boost his season with the Giants.

Ireland sealed qualification for the 2017 World Cup, with victories over Spain and Russia, and Roberts thrived on the experience.

“It was brilliant,” he told his club’s official website.

“The lads were great and they are lads that I used to play with at amateur level, like George King (Warrington Wolves) who has been playing really well and of course qualifying for the World Cup next year in Australia is a brilliant feeling.”

Roberts is currently rehabilitating a foot injury before his preseason begins in earnest, but he should be back in full training by next week at the latest.

“I was buzzing to come back from playing with Ireland and then went straight back in and cracked on,” he explained.

“I went for a scan and it showed that I had a tear in my foot and then I was in a protective boot.

“But it’s been really good to be back. At the moment I’ve been in rehab getting stuff sorted with my foot but everything has been pretty fast and I should be up and running by the end of the week.

“I’m feeling good and strong and it’s great to be back.”
