Johnstone, 26, is off-contract at the end of the current season. He has scored 81 tries in 106 Super League appearances, but has struggled with injuries during his career so far.

The pair are in the last year of their respective contracts with the Dragons, and have been linked with a move to Warrington.

The hooker has had an impressive start to life in Super League so far, having joined on a one-year contract.

Hodgson told Hull Daily Mail: “We’re hopeful of securing Joe long-term. We’re in conversations. I think Joe will remain beyond this year.”

14 contract decisions new coach Willie Peters must make

Hull KR currently have 14 players who are out of contract at the season’s end, so incoming coach Willie Peters will have some big decisions to make in the coming months.

On Monday night, the Robins announced the appointment of Peters on a three-year deal from 2023.
