Former Huddersfield coach Rick Stone has been appointed Sydney Roosters women’s coach for the 2019 NRLW season.

The 52-year-old coached Newcastle Knights in two spells across four years in the NRL. He then spent three years as coach of Huddersfield in Super League before he was sacked in 2018.

He then returned to Australia in the role of Country RL’s Newcastle women’s coach. The state competition will conclude in early August before the NRL Women’s Premiership kicks off for its second season during the men’s finals series in September.

Stone said: “This is a new challenge for me and I’m really looking forward to being involved with the team at the Roosters.

“It’s exciting to see the rapid rate at which women’s rugby league is evolving.”
