The community game’s season opens officially on March 5, and the RFL is marking the start of the new campaign with the tagline ‘It’s Competition Time!’.

Over 50,000 people currently participate across the Men’s and Women’s game, alongside Wheelchair RL, Armed Forces RL and Play Touch Rugby League competitions.

Clare Morrow, who chairs the RFL Community Board, believes that more progress is possible too.

“We had 9,900 more participants in the grassroots game in 2015 and we have an exciting year ahead with outstanding competitions across all tiers of the sport,” she said.

“Good luck to all the players who will be involved throughout the year, along with the coaches and volunteers who give up their time to help ensure the competitions get bigger and better each year.

“The standard of play across the leagues means a great family day out for local fans of all ages.”

The RFL is also launching #RLStories, a new social media campaign designed to bring Rugby League’s best grassroots stories and achievements to life.
