RFL investigate Batley over Fairbank

The RFL have confirmed that Batley Bulldogs are being investigated for possibly fielding an ineligible player in their win at Sheffield Eagles last week.

Jacob Fairbank, the Huddersfield Giants back rower, scored a try for John Kear’s team in the victory, playing under dual registration. His signing was secured by the club before the 5pm deadline last Friday.

He might not have clocked up enough games on dual registration to be eligible to play for them, however. Every player must play a minimum of three matches on dual registration to make him eligible.

“We are investigating allegations that Batley Bulldogs fielded an ineligible player against Sheffield Eagles last week,” the RFL have confirmed.

“We haven’t deliberately played somebody when we’ve been told not to play them,” Bulldogs chairman Kevin Nicholas said.

“We have got to provide a response (by today), which we will do and we’ll see what position the RFL take after that.”
