Chairman of the All Party Rugby League group, Greg Mulholland MP, has been nominated for Sports Parliamentarian of the Year.

The MP has helped increase prominence of rugby league within parliament this year, tabling a motion to recognise the achievements of Jamie Peacock and also urging for banks support of Bradford Bulls.

The award aims to highlight the good work that politicians have been doing for the sports and recreation sector during 2012, and Mulholland has received backing from the RFL.

Acting RFL Communications Director Niel Wood said: “Greg is passionate about all sports, but particularly Rugby League.

“We are fortunate to have a Member of Parliament with such a commitment to Rugby League, in terms of being an advocate of the game in the Chamber of the House of Commons, promoting the game to Parliamentary colleagues, chairing the Parliamentary Rugby League Group and playing the sport for the Political Animals and Leeds Akkies.

“We are grateful to his commitment and are delighted to see he has once again been shortlisted for the prestigious honour of Sports Parliamentarian of the Year.”
