Reports in Australia say that Sam Burgess’ move to South Sydney blocked

Reports in Australia have said that Sam Burgess‘ move back to South Sydney Rabbitohs has been blocked by the NRL due to the club being over the salary cap limit.

Burgess returned to rugby league following a short stint in rugby union with Bath, as well as the England national side for the World Cup, and the move to the Rabbitohs on a three year deal was reportedly to be the richest deal in rugby league history.

However, The Seven Network have reported that Souths would have to offload more of the club’s players to be able to afford Burgess as well as fitting under the salary cap limit.

They also reported that the game’s governing body had found that despite Dylan Walker being released from the final year of his playing contract, the Rabbitohs are still over the limit for 2016.

South Sydney Rabbitohs have yet to comment on the matter.
