Ratchford set for stint in forwards for Warrington

Tony Smith has revealed Stefan Ratchford may be looking at a further role in the forwards following the injury to Mitchell Dodds last weekend.

Dodds double leg break overshadowed the Wolves’ dramatic 30-20 over the Catalans Dragons in the south of France, with the Australian having just returned from a seperate injury.

Warrington Wolves head coach Tony Smith says that the club will not be looking to bring in a replacement for Dodds, and may look to people from within to fill the void left by Dodds.

“I doubt we’ll be bringing in a like-for-like for Mitch, it’s more likely we’ll make adjustments the way we usuaally do and adapy people that are best suited to the roles,” Smith told the Warrington Guardian.

“Last week Stefan was brilliant when he came on at 9 and then went to 13 while playing his normal game without people probably knowing exactly what position he was playing.

“How we play Stef depends how we use some of the other boys. Joe Westerman (last week’s starting loose forward) can play in other positions, as well as a couple of the others.”
